There may be various reasons for resistance to AI within your organization. This resistance leads to slower adoption, reluctance to fully uncover the true potential of the human-machine collaboration or even no adoption of technology at all.

Leaders must ensure they have compelling, meaningful answers to burning questions, strategize and plan well in advance and also begin by first developing characteristics that will aid in their own ability to adopt AI at the leadership level.
The top 10 characteristics defining your ability to adopt AI are:
- Adaptability– The ability of the organization to keep pace with new developments in AI must be kept at a close watch.
- Applicability- Successful AI innovation depends on how well it is applied to a given business context.
- Data Management- The organization will be data driven once AI is fully deployed. Thus, data management becomes a priority.
- Budget Allocation- Leadership should focus on allocating dedicated budgets balancing long term and short-term priorities of the organization with all due regards to AI deployment.
- Monetization- Organizations must evaluate AI’s capability to create new business models and drive the business further.
- Agility- As data gets more integrated, agile systems must manage the dynamic requirements of data. Investments must be made based on how much data value the solution or service provides.
- Fostering inter-dependence- AI tools and processes must ensure knowledge diffusion across the organization. Employees throughout the hierarchy should augment their judgment and intuition with algorithms.

- Development of a Roadmap- A clear vision about AI is crucial for leadership to avoid confusion and fear among employees. The lack of a clear roadmap may lead to diversion of AI priorities from the actual plan or even potential halting of AI programs.
- Be mindful of the Organizational Structure and the Infrastructure- While AI will be diffused across the organization and will be used to augment the judgement of employees, it is important to assess the power structure of organizations and act based on the organizational structure. It is equally important to assess the current infrastructure and understand the future requirements to embrace AI fully.
- Tools, Training and Talent- Leadership needs to ensure that there is a continuous AI learning loop across the organization for the technology to scale. Additionally, employees need to be provided with all the necessary support, tools and constant training to understand advantages, expectations and pitfalls in AI across departments.
Leadership should ensure the adoption of end to end AI platforms, which allows knowledge diffusion, collaboration and faster build out. This drastic difference in approach mandates change in leadership attitude and managing cultural alignment towards the technology but it cannot be ignored.
A good start could be the effective communication of the broader vision of adopting new technology (AI) and how it will empower the organization as a whole to take effective and judicious decisions.
