Seasons Greetings from Solitaire Consulting

Blog: Solitaire Consulting Blog

As we wind down this week, I’d like to use this post to briefly reflect on my year.

Before I do that, in this my last post of 2021, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all my clients, partners, family, friends, and of course everyone else who takes the time to read my blogs and emails, for their continued interest in my work. It is always appreciated and I particularly enjoy reading and responding to the comments and feedback I receive

Now onto my review of 2021, using a similar format to my project reviews.

What have I done well?
Continued to grow my business and focus on clients.

2021 has seen an increase in growth over the previous year which has mostly been referrals from clients and service providers. Thank you. You know who you are!  Current clients have continued to use our services and we’ve gained several more, which is great.

What could I have done better?
Invested more time in developing products to support our services.

Being a small business there is always pressure to do more for our clients. As a consequence we don’t spend as much time developing ourselves or our internal capability to turn services into repeatable products. The impact of this is more pressure on my small team to develop tools and techniques as they go.

We’ve had lots of great ideas this year but most of them are still sitting on the shelf yet to be implemented. We need to get much better at implementing our own ideas next year.  (This is ironic given our clients value our ability to help them implement their ideas and plans!)

What is my Key Learning Point to apply next year?
Keep focusing on what we’re best at.

As a company, our focus remains supporting international trust companies and corporate services providers. Specifically with digitalisation and related project and change management services. We have very few clients (just one at the moment!) outside of this sector.  Being able to focus on a niche area is much better than being a generalist.

In global terms it may be a very small industry, but we can be the best in the world when it comes to our knowledge of software solutions for trust administration and corporate services!

Hopefully this post will prompt you to conduct your own review over the holiday period. I’d love to hear your comments and feedback early next year!
