Cars Without Queues. Cars Without Keys
Blog: Capgemini CTO Blog
Picking up a rental or a fleet car has always involved checking in at a desk, until now.
It’s easy to order a cab these days. You can do it online from your phone. It’s also easy to hire a car. There are apps for that, too.
But there’s a difference. Ordering a taxi is an entirely digital proposition—but when you rent a car, there’s an additional physical element, because you need to be given the keys. This, in turn, means you need to go to a rental desk, which may or may not be staffed 24/7, and may or not involve standing in line. It has always been this way.
Great for rentals…
Until now, that is. At CES in Las Vegas (January 9-12) we’ll be showcasing our Mov’InBlue solution. Like many of the best ideas, it can be described very simply: it’s a technology that locks, unlocks, and starts a vehicle with just a smartphone.
Think of the implications. In the past, if your flight was delayed by bad weather and you landed in the small hours of the morning, you may have found the rental desk was closed, or that there were long queues. But with Mov’InBlue technology, you needn’t worry. The app tells you where to find the car and you can go straight to it, unlock it and drive away. It’s flexible, economical, and useful for you, and of course, for the hire company also.
… and great for fleet management too
It’s not just about car hire. The technology can also be used for large organizations with fleets of company vehicles. An entire layer of administration can be removed from the allocation of cars, vans, and trucks to people—and because the process is now completely digital, fleet managers can collect real-time vehicle maintenance and usage data, and use that information to control the size and availability of their fleets.
Mov’In Blue. Moving fast
Mov’InBlue is new, but there are already a thousand vehicles using the technology in short-term car rental and company fleets— and as you’d expect, interest is growing fast.
At CES, you’ll be able to see demonstrations at the booth of our Mov’InBlue partner, Valeo.
If you can see the possibilities and want to discuss how Mov’InBlue could work for you, you don’t need to go to Las Vegas. Please get in touch with me directly. I’d be delighted to hear from you.
