A Cautious and Aware citizen
Blog: NASSCOM Official Blog
Before I begin, let me just put a few facts about Data for you:
- Every day 2.5 quintillion bytes of data is generated online
- By 2023, the big data analytics market is expected to reach $103 billion. The big data market is projected to grow by 20%
- In one second, each person is expected to generate 1.7 megabytes of data by 2020
- Netflix saves $1 billion every year by channelizing Big data for customer retention
- A study by Flat World Solutions estimates that if the businesses utilize a data-driven approach, they will gain $430 billion by 2020
- 83% of organizations are investing in big data projects
Now, since you have passed a glance at the above facts, you might have an idea about the importance of data in the everyday functioning of not just business but rather individuals as well.
With the movie “Snowden”, we got to know more intensely about data breach and authorities having a watch over our every move. From a selfie to our emails to our private messages, everything, they know about it! So let me just take a deep breath and focus on the words cautiousness and awareness.
“How aware are you?”
“How cautious, are you?”
To gather and collate from all the news across the globe and of course from the facts mentioned above, I can say for sure that we are now entering into the phase of ‘A Cautious and Aware citizen’.
The responsibility falls on us to be more careful in providing our data. We need to be more careful to whom we provide us with the data and in what capacity! That TRUST is what I am talking about. Every organization big or small is ready to take up your information and then sell it forward to other organizations and it goes on and on and on. It is a loop with no end-point. It is a spider’s web net that has the capability to block us and extract data at any given point of time.
Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram each one of them operates and feeds off of the data. As a result, making billions of dollars. An individual of the 21st century has to be more aware and has to develop the habit of reading terms and conditions because “Hello!! You never know what dark web has in its store for you.”
A cautious and aware citizen will be the one who understands that it is his/her right to know in what capacity the information provided will be used. How secure and bound your network is that no hacker can go past it.
“Those who understand Data and its capabilities will win the data war in the 21st Century.”
I will keep this one short because I know most of my readers are smart to understand what I am implying with my blog.
Be Aware! Be Safe! Be Cautious! Know your rights!
