You’ve Arrived at Your Destination: Digital

Blog: The Tibco Blog

We called it Destination: Digital and as some 2,000 delegates converged for this year’s TIBCO NOW conference, where the MGM Grand in Las Vegas was undoubtedly the place for the latest insights on the innovation informing and accelerating the digital journey, and all of its many facets.

With the overarching narrative of the digital transformation—echoing the Fourth Industrial Revolution—a packed schedule focused on how companies can best equip themselves to handle the resulting challenges and opportunities of this digital age, dipping into examples from TIBCO’s evolving technology portfolio, something which has always been informed by real-life customer challenges.

Perhaps it was being in touching distance of this turbo-charged, hyper-converged revolution, but the expectation was palpable and the message crystal clear that hyper-connectedness and break-neck speed of response were now prerequisite to meet the heightened expectation of the millennial customer. With innovation back at the top of the agenda, this was an inspiring and proactive call to action for all our customers and partners to leave their mark and quite simply change their business by harnessing the full raft of tools and intelligence now at their disposal.

Indeed, with a greater number of new product releases than we have ever seen, the event underlined how choice has become a key driver, with the availability of solutions spanning cloud, on-premise, or subscription to suit every preference.

New offering Project Flogo, was a case in point, the solution underpinning our mission to shake up integration at the edge and core of a business as big data, cloud, IoT, and mobile technologies demand alternative integration flows beyond the confines of the traditional enterprise IT. As one of the first design bots created for IoT edge application development, the solution enables us to connect more intelligently—bringing a surge of power to many of the smallest connected, smart devices—build more agile applications, and create an open IoT development community, all of which accelerate the evolution of digital business.

It’s a development which reiterates how the digital edge has become the center of attention, an agile and fertile space where all the action is, thanks in part to the proliferation of channels which inform and access it. And this shift in focus from core systems such as data centers to the outer systems on the periphery which touch the customer directly has been fuelled by the drive for an enriched customer experience and the need for ever greater control over customer engagement. As sensors, actuators, and devices conspire to interact and communicate in real-time data, the resulting efficiency, quicker response times and cost savings, unfettered by the issues such network latency are pushing the capability envelope that bit further.

The only fly in the ointment remains the challenge involved when addressing the different IT demands of both the core and edge of the business. It’s a conflict which tends to frame the conversation around it, positioning the two as an either/or competing concerns, but both are important and as such, demand a coherent approach which delivers the agility needed at the edge without compromising on the stability required by the core, the upshot being a fully joined up digital business.

Achieving this interconnectedness is our raison d’etre, along with the augmenting intelligence which inevitably proved to be another defining theme of the event. After reflecting on how we have seen the concept of real-time data evolve from a little known entity to becoming conventional wisdom, the latest phase in our continual quest to extract optimal value from the data at ever-faster speed has led us to TIBCO Graph Database.

Taking center stage, this translytical database, designed to support both transactions and analytics without sacrificing performance, scale, and analytical capacity, promises a transformative effect on enterprise architects’ ability to deliver analytical insights at lightning speed. Once again we’ve accelerated the offering and the insights. As the doors close on another conference, a new one opens for our customers’ digital journey.
