TIBCO NOW Day 2: Limitless Possibilities for Harnessing the Power of Data

Blog: The Tibco Blog

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Day two of TIBCO NOW featured the Unify Premium track, which brought excitement and energy as attendees experienced firsthand the truly limitless potential of their data and how to make it work for them in ways they never imagined.

Throughout both the Unify Keynote and breakout sessions, the focus was on empowering users to take their data into their own hands with easier implementation of master data management tools and no-code/low-code interfaces that allow business users to take ownership of their data and create LIMITLESS possibilities.

Unify Premium Keynote: Limitless Speed, Trust, and Scale with Agile Data Fabric

Mark Palmer, TIBCO’s Analytics, Data Science, and Data Virtualization SVP and GM, began the Unify Keynote with a presentation on the innovative solutions provided by modern data fabrics, stressing the importance of promoting citizen data sharing and citizen data engineering to empower users to do self-service to increase the speed and efficiency of their data-driven decision-making.

“What’s special about the TIBCO Data Fabric?” Palmer began, “It’s the concept of putting data at everyone’s fingertips.”

Palmer was then joined by Jean-Marc Viallatte, Arkema’s VP Supply Chain Group, and Sylvain Voiry, Arkema’s Head of Data Governance, to discuss the business challenges that led to Arkema creating a data fabric with TIBCO EBX and how it helped get the company’s data management under control.

Viallate explained how the company grew very quickly and, as a result, was left with extremely diverse systems and applications that they needed to consolidate and control, adding that, “We needed to get a tool that will be flexible enough to really adapt to our evolving business and to our level of maturity on data management. We clearly are serious about managing data, and we want to improve every day on our data management.”

According to Voiry, “The basic idea was to make this application, this new platform, a collaborative tool where people from the different functions—like sales, purchasing, and the legal department—could access, collaborate and contribute to the collection of data.”

Next, Dennis McLaughlin, TIBCO’s Senior Director of Product Management, spoke about the importance of data quality and what role it plays in an agile data fabric. He referred to the data quality lifecycle, explaining it as “…number one: help you get insight and understanding to the data situation that you have; number two: be able to select from inventory or create your own data quality services and rules; and number three: be able to deploy them and monitor them over time.”

Alex Vaillancourt, The Healthcare Collaborative’s CIO and SVP of Informatics, talked about the organization’s key role in healthcare data management, as well as the immense business challenges it faced in the midst of a global pandemic.

In trying to break down contact-tracing data as well as which patients were most affected by COVID-19 by age, race, gender, and geographic area, they were dealing with an immense amount of data from a variety of systems with often no clear standard to use for analysis that could provide actionable data. As Vaillancourt explained, “…organizations like mine that have to bring all the information together do a lot of data normalization and a lot of data management to start to make sense of it.”

He continued by emphasizing just how critical accurate data is, now more than ever, saying, “Never have we seen a need for data now, where days of not having accurate data mean an outbreak. It means someone’s loved one or a caregiver isn’t able to treat that person appropriately. We provide dashboards to our friends in public health, to hospital systems, we work with departments of health, and we try to make sense of this in the best way possible.”

Finally, Palmer and McLaughlin wrapped up the keynote with an exciting look at TIBCO’s goal in achieving automated data quality and automating the data quality lifecycle.

Breakout Sessions

Some standout sessions from today included “TIBCO Omni-Gen: What’s New,” which covered all the new and upcoming features of the TIBCO Omni-Gen solution, including expanded authorization options, containerization support for easier deployment, and native support for TIBCO Data Virtualization and TIBCO ModelOps.

Another exciting session, “TIBCO EBX: Migrating to EBX 6 Brings New Possibilities for Mastering Your Data,” demonstrated to attendees how TIBCO EBX 6, among other capabilities, provides native support for higher data volume processing, less memory consumption, easy UI customization, and a new, faster query engine built on SQL standards.

In the session, “Loqate: The Power of Data Verification,” attendees learned about TIBCO Data Quality partner Loqate and how to leverage their address verification, geocoding, email, and phone validation solutions to accurately locate and communicate with customers, suppliers, and other mission-critical contacts.
