Three Topics You Must Explore at HIMSS 2022

Blog: UIPath.com

Healthcare is one of the most complex industries in the world. And the complexities and challenges affect everyone, from patients, partners, and caregivers to administrators and communities. Where one small inefficiency is found, a downstream chain of issues can lead to:

In today’s healthcare ecosystem—one that's been rocked globally by the COVID-19 pandemic—finding solutions for creating revolutionary simplicity in processes and experiences has become a major priority for providers and payers alike. That’s why this year’s HIMSS Global Health Conference and Exhibition (taking place March 14-18, 2022) will focus on helping healthcare business leaders, caregivers, data and information professionals, and policymakers reimagine health with world-class educational programming and a diverse group of exhibitors.

UiPath will be there on both fronts—providing perspectives from healthcare thought leaders, as well as access to information and exclusive experiences with our technology. Read on to check out our top recommendations for hot topics you must explore at this year’s conference.

#1 Interoperability

It isn’t new, but interoperability continues to be one of the most important topics in healthcare today. The massive amount of IT systems required to keep healthcare organizations running is staggering. From legacy IT infrastructure and electronic health records (EHR) systems to patient portals, healthcare technology capabilities must interact seamlessly and work together to provide accurate, up-to-date information and services.

The HIMSS22 Interoperability Showcase™ will address 15 different topic areas with self-guided tours at 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour in Hall E, Booth 8240. Topics include pregnancy and surgical complications, nationwide connected care, ICU patient care in an isolation room, pandemic response and vaccine coordination, and many, many more.

As connected care stories unfold, you’ll witness the impact of competitive systems and products working together to improve clinical outcomes, quality and patient experience.

#2 Staffing shortages and employee burnout

UiPath Global Director of Healthcare and Life Sciences Jason Warrelmann recently appeared on the Tuning Into the C-Suite podcast from Managed Healthcare Executive to share his perspective on an extremely timely topic for the healthcare industry. According to Warrelmann, the first two years of the pandemic yielded 1,000 to 2,000 new, prime use cases for automation to relieve inefficiencies in healthcare processes. And those use cases can lead to major relief for staff and clinicians stretched thin because of shortages and increased patient demands.

If it takes 300 clicks to process a referral, and I can get it down to two clicks and let a software robot do the other 298 clicks, that immediately takes the pressure and the workload abrasion off of the physician.

A variety of HIMSS22 sessions will discuss the burden of the pandemic on the healthcare system, including strategies and technologies to consider. You won’t want to miss the keynote on Wednesday, March 16, Preparing for the 2022 and Beyond Workforce, moderated by 60 Minutes Correspondent Scott Pelley. This panel will address “the ripple effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the current makeup of today’s workforce.”

Don’t miss Warrelmann, along with Bob Gross from Cleveland Clinic in the Innovation Pavilion on Wednesday, March 16, from 12:45 pm-1:05 pm.

This speaking session, titled “Intelligent Approach to Practical Desktop Automation for the Care Giver,” will provide a practical perspective for reducing administrative burdens for staff with exclusive insights from Cleveland Clinic’s automation program. You'll see how automation can drive a more resilient workforce.

#3 Patient access

UiPath blog contributor and author Pascal Bornet wrote: “According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is a global shortage of 4.3 million healthcare providers. IA technology can bring healthcare to anyone with access to a smartphone—which is an increasing proportion of people (even in regions that lack other infrastructure and technology.)”

Providing multiple point-of-care options, such as telehealth, remote monitoring, and in-home visits to engage patients where they want to be met is a major initiative for many healthcare organizations today. Affordable healthcare and access, unsurprisingly, is also a major theme at HIMSS22. Session topics will include veteran healthcare, pandemic recovery, empathy in the patient experience, and innovative ways to drive patient engagement.
