The Mobile Enterprise: A New Year’s Resolution Built to Last

New Year’s resolutions can be tough. Although they seem promising, ask yourself this: when was the last time you actually kept a New Year’s resolution?
More time at the gym? Where’s the time for that. Pick up a new hobby? Work gets in the way. More travel? This kids’ schedule is just too busy.
It seems like every year there are countless resolutions that fade away as the year goes on.
But this time around there is hope. In 2016, the mobile enterprise will be here to stay!
According to Appian’s recently commissioned omnibus survey of IT Decision Makers (ITDM), the vast majority (84 percent) report that in 2016, businesses’ focus will shift from mobile applications to the mobile enterprise.
The results show that in the coming year ITDM will shift their focus to an enterprise to drive customer engagement, competitiveness, and operational productivity. However, they will need to overcome agility, speed, or security obstacles. Enterprise mobility requires an agile approach to mobile application development that not only supports a broad and growing range of mobile devices, but enables secure access to data across an organization.
Here are several key findings from the survey that may serve as priorities in 2016:
- -Nine in ten (89 percent) ITDM report they would rather have functional parity across desktop and mobile apps than have separate applications.
- -85 percent of ITDM report custom software applications are key to mobilizing an entire business.
- -When considering the industries that are most likely to adopt enterprise mobility in 2016, telecommunications (40 percent) tops the list, followed by financial services (36 percent), manufacturing (34 percent), and energy and utilities (32 percent).
