Santa and Cloud Connected Services

Blog: The Tibco Blog

It isn’t a well known fact, but Santa’s workshop is focused on more than just manufacturing. In fact, it one of the largest employers in the Northern Hemisphere and one of the largest distributors of packages in the world.  Not only does the workshop do manufacturing and logistics but there are a number of departments that take care of all the essentials.

There is the marketing department that is responsible for responding to the Dear Santa letters.  They also work with the sales department to maintain the Master Naughty or Nice list.  And then there is finance department who makes sure the staff gets paid, as well as the all the vendors that Santa partners with. Don’t forget about operations, they make sure everything is working.  There is even an IT department to make sure all the systems the different departments work with are always available.

You shouldn’t be surprised that with all the work that Santa and his elves do, they need need tools to make them more productive.  Santa’s little helpers are tirelessly working to keep systems running and making sure all the presents will be delivered to the right kid, at the right time, with the right “Merry Christmas”.  Santa’s workshop is using more and more of applications as a service to help them be more efficient.  It is hard to make sure that things get done, so the workshop has turned to TIBCO for some help. Using TIBCO Simplr and TIBCO Cloud Integration, the elves of Santa’s workshop have automated many things to make them operate efficiently.

Kids: If you moved this year, have no fear—Santa’s elves use Simplr to keep your  contact information updated so he knows where to find you! The elves enter changes from your wonderful, crayon-addressed envelopes into Google Sheets, and use a Simplr flow to make sure you are correctly entered into Salesforce (where Santa tracks the Naughty and Nice list) and into Amazon Redshift which Santa uses as data warehouse so he can do analysis on what are the hot trends for this year.

The elves on the marketing, sales, and finance teams need to share their data and they don’t want to have to explain it to the IT elves (they are busy making sure the GPS on Santa’s sleigh is working properly).  They took to using TIBCO Cloud Integration to integrate systems, expose APIs so the external partners of the workshop can build apps to simplify the Dear Santa wish lists, and integrate with the suppliers to expedite the order and delivery of required materials for all the presents.

On Christmas Eve, Mrs. Claus added a step to the aforementioned Simplr flow that sends a notification to her TIBCO Expresso mobile app when Santa finishes his job in each country. Now she can stay up to date during all the merriment! The workshop has never been so been so efficient. Now instead of scrambling at the last minute, they can go pack for the Bahamas!
