Insights From the 2016 Houston Energy Forum Spotfire Hackathon

Blog: The Tibco Blog

If you had to learn a new application or merely test your skill level, would you dive into tutorials or get your hands dirty and build something? At the TIBCO Spotfire Hackathon for the 2016 Houston Energy Forumwe made that choice easy by allowing participants to compete in a guided hackathon and the results were astonishing! The 2-hour hackathon welcomed Spotfire enthusiasts of all skill levels to build solutions in the areas of machine learning, geoanalytics, data exploration, and production data analysis.

“The Spotfire Hackathon was an incredible learning experience”, said Alex Lach from ConocoPhillips, winner of the hackathon. “It demonstrated the powerful insights you can gain with the flexibility of Spotfire and power of the TERR engine. The hackathon was a great example of how data analytics can be applied quickly to common Oil & Gas problems such as decline curve analysis and mapping. It was well-organized and gave participants the chance to push both their skills and Spotfire to the limits to solve challenges.”

The TIBCO team behind the event was excited to review innovative solutions from participants who leveraged data functions to customize dashboards, gained insight from data analysis through visualizations, and lastly, worked with API’s to share their results with the world.
