“Back Up Your Stance with Action”: Q&A with TIBCO’s Brian Guiducci
Blog: The Tibco Blog
Reading Time: 2 minutes
As a part of TIBCO’s Diversity & Inclusion initiative for the month of June, we are spotlighting employees who are members of our various Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), asking them what diversity means to them, how it’s exhibited at TIBCO, and why they participate in an ERG.
TIBCO: Tell us about yourself
Brian Guiducci: My name is Brian Guiducci, and I’ve been at TIBCO for about a year and a half. I work as a Senior Portfolio Marketing Specialist for the Voice of the Customer Program and am based in Denver, Colorado. I am a part of the Pride ERG.
TIBCO: What does diversity mean to you?
BG: Diversity at a corporation for me means that the company is striving to foster an environment and culture that is supportive of inclusivity and diversity practices across all facets of the organization. They are not only taking a stand publicly but also backing up their stance with action.
TIBCO: What successful initiatives or best practices has TIBCO identified concerning diversity and inclusion issues?
BG: I think there is still a lot that TIBCO can continue to do around diversity and inclusion. With the creation of the ERGs, driven by TIBCO employees, TIBCO is taking the right steps to identify and create these successful initiatives and best practices. In my opinion, it is important that the employees’ voices are heard around these issues and the ERG groups will help make sure that happens.
TIBCO: Why have you stepped forward to either spearhead or participate in an ERG?
BG: As an openly gay man, it is extremely important to me that the company I work for has an active Pride ERG Group. When Julian (Girafalco) brought me on to help spearhead the launch of the Denver Pride ERG, I was ecstatic. I hope to help create a safe space for members of the Denver Pride ERG and to continue to challenge TIBCO to strive to implement more diversity and inclusion programs to better the company.
TIBCO: Why do you think diversity is important for businesses to support and recognize?
BG: No one should be made to feel insignificant or be discriminated against based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Unfortunately, this discrimination still happens at businesses in every geographic region and industry. Therefore, it is extremely important for a company to take a stand and implement programs to help support their diversity and inclusion initiatives and to create a safe, supportive environment for all workers.
TIBCO: What are the long term impacts of focusing on diversity and inclusion within TIBCO and beyond?
BG: Diversity and inclusion have been a guiding principle at TIBCO and it is important that TIBCO continues to implement new programs, such as the ERG groups, to support their focus on an inclusive corporate culture. Not only will this increase employee satisfaction, but it will also be attractive to prospective employees. Specifically for the LGBTQ community, striving to get TIBCO on the Human Rights Campaigns’ Corporate Equality Index list as one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality”.
