Working Together Against Type 1 Diabetes

Blog: Oracle BPM

By Edward Screven, Oracle’s Chief Corporate Architect

Team Oracle is joining the fight against type 1 diabetes (T1D). I’m proud to announce that we are a Hero Sponsor for the 2019 JDRF One Walk, taking place at four locations around the Bay Area in October.

Many of us will be walking together on October 6 at California’s Great America in Santa Clara. Walks are also taking place in Pacific Grove on October 6 and in San Ramon and San Francisco on October 20.

I’d like to invite you to join me and Team Oracle at the JDRF One Walk. You’ll be part of something big. And you’ll make a difference for a great cause–putting an end to type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes affects many people in our Oracle family, including parents like me who have children with T1D, and employees who live with the disease themselves.

T1D is a chronic, life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults. In T1D, the body’s immune system destroys the cells that release insulin, eventually eliminating insulin production from the body. T1D requires rigorous 24/7 monitoring of blood glucose levels to avoid devastating complications. T1D onset is sudden and unpreventable, and it is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. While the condition affects people of all ages, it’s been on the rise, especially among children.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding T1D research. Their strength lies in their exclusive focus and singular influence on the worldwide effort to end T1D. JDRF’s mission is to improve lives today and tomorrow by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat T1D and its complications.

JDRF One Walk is a fun, family-friendly event where dedicated walkers, volunteers and sponsors raise money to make living with T1D safer and healthier, until it is no longer a threat. Everyone is welcome to take part. It’s an amazing experience filled with activities, entertainment and the celebration of coming together to change the future for everyone living with this disease. It’s why my family participates every year.

At Oracle, we are committed to applying the same level of commitment, rigor, and sincerity to changing lives as we do to building cutting-edge technology for our customers. We are proud to support JDRF in its efforts to transform the lives of people affected by T1D. Oracle’s Hero Sponsorship of the JDRF One Walk will help change lives, by raising awareness of this important cause and advancing the mission to find a much-needed cure.

If you’re interested in joining Team Oracle at an upcoming walk, please register yourself and your guests in the Oracle Volunteering portal and on the JDRF One Walk page.
