Why I Love TIBCO—German Office

TIBCO Software is a great place to work, with intelligent, energetic employees who contribute to the success of the company and love what they do every day. We’re back at it with another interview with a TIBCO employee from our office in Germany. Alexander von Boguszewski, a delivery manager based in the German office, shares what helped him choose TIBCO, how he makes a difference, and more.
TTB: How long have you been at TIBCO?
Alexander von Boguszewski: A year and a half. I started my career with TIBCO in August of 2015 as a technical architect in TIBCO’s Professional Services Group. Prior to this role, I was a consultant-at-large at a German system integrator focused on SOA and integration, and mostly worked in the digitalization of processes.
TTB: How does your work impact TIBCO’s customers?
AvB: I organize the right people at the right time for the customer, and ensure that the customer is enabled to do and be their best. I strive for productivity for my team and customers with no blockers.
TTB: What was your biggest or toughest problem you’ve solved within the last year?
AvB: One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was getting introduced to new accounts with people who have been working on them for months, sometimes years. It is hard to catch up three months’ worth of relationship building within a week.
TTB: What made you choose TIBCO Professional Services Group?
AvB: I’ve always been interested in helping smart people be happy and productive. To that end, I chose to work as an IT Consultant with a focus on process implementation and optimizing. TIBCO is one of the leading companies creating processing tools, and PSG is the most experienced in these technologies. I also enjoy the internationality within the PSG—I work with colleagues from all around the world, which I find quite inspiriting.
TTB: Why did you choose a career in IT? Tell us your career progression story.
AvB: Many people think that being in IT means that you have to be a programmer, engineer, or operator. However, after I started at an IT company, I realized there are many other options. I began as a developer, then worked as a consultant for a large asset manager where I got the opportunity to be an IT architect and work as lead on some projects. After that, I started at TIBCO as an architect on an operational team, where we worked on deployment management, incident and problem management, and how to run a complex system 24/7. After a few months, I became the leading architect for this customer, and work with a team of three. As a delivery manager, I work in organization and supervision of our consultants, who are working on multiple projects for multiple customers. We analyze requirements for processes and technologies, create comprehensive plans, and provide the business and technical functions needed to successfully achieve what a client expects to receive.
IT isn’t just coding or operating an enterprise system. I also enjoy the travel involved and have been to at least eight new places in the last six years to speak with specialists about functional requirements for their systems, hold presentations about opportunities and new solutions, search for specialists with unique skillsets, negotiate contracts with our customers, and more. There are many different opportunities out there!
TTB: How does TIBCO differ from other organizations you have worked for?
AvB: The culture at TIBCO is more self-driven. Teams and managers believe in you and you are able to reach out for support as needed. Everyone at TIBCO is extremely helpful and is always willing to sit on a one-on-one call to catch me up on all the important details. Ask and you shall receive.
A PSG consultant’s main role is to assist customers so they can use our products to improve current and future processes. It’s all about helping the customer to create value with our products. There’s a large amount of collaboration involved, with the customer’s managers and developers, TIBCO product engineers, PSG and solution consultants, and partners.
TTB: What advice do you have for someone who is interested in pursuing a career at TIBCO?
AvB: Do it! TIBCO is definitely a good organization to work for. The Professional Services Group is engaged in small firefighter projects, one-man architecture consulting in mid-size companies, and very large implementation projects in the largest enterprises. Each project differs from the others and provides variety in my workload. TIBCO gives employees lots of freedom to innovate and think outside of the box. It’s a great environment to grow professionally and take on more responsibilities to expand your role.
