Why Data Virtualization was a Hot Topic at TIBCO NOW Chicago

Blog: The Tibco Blog

I previously lived in Chicago for 13 years before moving to Milwaukee, so I was excited to come back and present at TIBCO NOW. But not only because I just wanted to visit this amazing city. I wanted to share with everyone, “What’s New and What’s Next with Data Virtualization.” It seems attendees were just as excited to learn with long lines for the demo booth and packed breakout sessions, and enthusiastic questions.

One thing I’ve noticed over the last couple of years in presenting on data virtualization (DV) is that I no longer need to explain the “what” as much. People get it. They understand the inherent value data virtualization can provide to their business. As the popularity has soared over the last two years, the “why” is much more exciting, and that’s what I’ll be focusing on in this blog.

The Why:

Organizations are fed up with siloed data. Siloes are inefficient, expensive, and slow everything down. If you want to be a digital business today, silos are not an option. That’s why DV was such a hot topic at TIBCO NOW Chicago and why it’s been growing in popularity over the last several years.

Industry analysts have taken notice as well, predicting rapid growth for DV. But based on the growth they’ve seen, the rate of adoption may have already exceeded their predictions. Organizations using data virtualization has almost doubled year over year for the last two to three years.

So, why are customers and analysts flocking to data virtualization?

Today, there is more available data than ever before and more people that want to consume and make sure they can gain insights from it all. At its core, data virtualization provides value by bringing together multiple, disparate data sources and making them appear as one unified view of the data for users to consume. It doesn’t matter where your data is coming from, with DV you can spend less time searching for data and more time analyzing it.

Furthermore, with DV, you can provide analytics users the data where they need it, how they need it, and when they need it. By bringing data together in an analytics application that looks like one dataset to a user, you can help analytics teams be more efficient and produce better results. Instead of spending time finding and merging disparate datasets, let your analysts focus on solving bigger problems for the business with a central DV layer to access everything.
