TIBCO4Good Partner Spotlight: Teaming Up for the Future with the 49ers Foundation

This blog is the first in an ongoing Partner Spotlight Series, highlighting the outstanding work #TIBCO4Good partners are doing to create a positive impact in their communities. First up: the 49ers Foundation.

The 49ers Foundation is the charitable arm of the San Francisco 49ers NFL team that is dedicated to “harnessing football to educate and empower Bay Area youth through direct and beneficiary programs.” These programs give the next generation of Bay Area students the skills and the confidence to take them wherever they want to go in life.

Full STEAM Ahead into Education

One of these direct programs is 49ers EDU, which boasts an award-winning STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education program. One of their related community-based programs is called the STEM Leadership Institute (SLI), an intensive course available to 7th to 12th-grade students throughout the Bay Area.

Just this past year, of the funds raised by the Foundation, 37 percent went towards general education and 25 percent specifically towards STEAM education.

Going Digital4Good

Speaking of the past year, the sudden closure of schools was among the many challenges presented by COVID-19. However, 49ers EDU skillfully pivoted with the pandemic, providing digital, football-inspired STEAM education resources for teachers and students alike.

It was also able to turn events originally planned to be in person into virtual ones. This included an event done in partnership with TIBCO4Good and the Silicon Valley Education Foundation, where 9th-grade students could engage in a summer STEM career panel with TIBCO employees.

30 Years of Making a Difference

This year, the 49ers Foundation is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Through partnerships with organizations and sponsors like TIBCO, the Foundation has been able to donate more than $50 million over the past three decades, providing incredible support to kids in the Bay Area community.

49ers Foundation and TIBCO: Touchdown!

Most recently, in April, TIBCO and the 49ers Foundation came together to put on the Faithful to the Future auction sweepstakes and sale. The auction was widely publicized in tandem with the NFL draft to leverage fan support. It featured locker-room donated items like an Arik Armstead game-worn jersey, Mike McGlinchey game-worn pants, and Deebo Samuel game-worn cleats.

Fans could also donate to get entries for the chance to win two tickets to a 2021-season game, which included a private meet-and-greet with legendary former 49ers running back and three-time Super Bowl Champion Roger Craig. Craig is currently TIBCO’s VP of Business Development.

The goal was to raise $25,000, with all proceeds going to support the Foundation’s continuing mission of educating and empowering Bay Area youth, with TIBCO committing to matching up to $12,500. The length of the auction and sweepstakes was 20 days, and, in the end, it exceeded the 25,000 dollar goal in just a week, serving as further proof that we are #StrongerTogether.
