The successful implementation of the Business Process Management model in the Ministry of Interior of Colombia has earned a place as finalist in the WfMC Global Awards for Excellence in BPM and Workflow, which, as in previous years, makes them potential winners of the highest award.
The adoption of a process management approach in a public organization the size and complexity of the Ministry of Interior presents a great challenge. However the project to automate procedures, which is considered extremely complex, was undertaken without a single line of programming code hereby reducing work (time/costs) by 80% and helping to guide the process designer to achieve a high level of modeling.
The results have been very positive for both the Ministry and the citizens. Specifically:
- Procedures have been considerably expedited, with an average reduction of processing time of 97% in comparison to processing without the support of the software.
- It has achieved an 80% average reduction of management costs, which is mainly thanks to increased productivity due to coordinated flow systems and work reduction due to the automation of the majority of process activities.
- This cost reduction has enabled the ministry to offer citizens the procedures free of charge.
