The Future of Analytics is Converged and Augmented

In times of rapid change, analytics are an adaptive imperative—but analytics itself is changing as well. The definition of what we’ve known as “augmented analytics” is expanding, and this expansion represents a new opportunity for data leaders, data analysts, and data scientists to help their organizations more quickly adapt to change.

The Impact of Blurring Boundaries on Augmented Analytics

This transformation is impacting the analytics and BI and data science and machine learning markets most especially. Brought together by augmented analytics, as these two markets converge, consumers’ needs are changing and providers’ capabilities are changing to meet those needs. Capabilities are merging. We’re seeing data science capabilities for visual analytics and vice versa. Even streaming capabilities have blurred the traditional boundaries of analytics markets.

With these capabilities unified and available across different analytics solutions, data scientists and data analysts today can select the right capabilities to get the job done. This can mean a more seamless analytics workflow and a more user-friendly experience. It also means that organizations no longer need to compromise on the best capabilities to adapt to change.

Analytics Maturation: Opportunities and Challenges Ahead

According to Gartner’s recent ground-breaking report, Worlds Collide as Augmented Analytics Draws Analytics, BI, and Data Science Together(1), “Organizations that seize the opportunities of the newly catalyzed market could dramatically accelerate their analytics maturation”.

If you’re a data and analytics leader, we encourage you to read the Gartner report on the convergence of these markets. From the report, we believe you will learn about:

While this convergence represents an immense opportunity for leaders to gain a competitive advantage, it also poses a challenge for those same organizations to fulfill new customer demands. Author of the report, Carlie Idoine, writes, “The convergence of analytics and BI and DSML platform capabilities, together with the broader collision of data and analytics worlds, is unsettling. Consequently, data and analytics leaders are struggling to understand what capabilities are available and how best to meet the needs of their changing user base, which increasingly includes both technical and nontechnical, expert and citizen, users.”
