The Best Employee Personal Safety Defense? A Collective One

To no one’s surprise, employee personal safety has become increasingly challenging and important in today’s global climate. Terrorism acts, such as the recent violence in Paris, and active shooter events, such as the recent one in San Bernardino, California, demonstrate the very real-world risks that are proliferating in our environment.

As globalization continues to affect organizations and geographies, security leaders must deliver the utmost protection to its employees, residents, customers and visitors, no matter where they are physically located.Screen_Capture_blue_door_with_lock_resized

Corporate organizations, in particular, are challenged with also protecting executives and staff when traveling to off-site locations. Today’s global business environment often means frequent business travel—not just to large global cities, but to fairly high-risk and emerging locations. The recent incidents mentioned above have emphasized the need for organizations to have a comprehensive security and safety program for frequent travelers—and more importantly—have a robust response in place should an incident occur.

Furthermore, natural disasters, such as heavy rainfall and flooding, also serve as a reminder of the need to help ensure employee safety.

Now more than ever, organizations need to seek new ways to protect people, assets, brands and reputation by helping to ensure an effective and robust approach to security risk management is in place. These efforts can no longer be siloed and remain effective. As risks evolve, security leadership has partnered with IT departments and risk management in an effort to help ensure the safety of traveling employees.

A personal safety program is a key part of any robust enterprise security strategy, and such initiatives only help build new levels of situational awareness. Organizations can better control risk and extend their safety umbrella to employees in the workplace or on business travel while helping to make sure business continues to operate at the pace expected by senior leadership.

Thorough knowledge of the risks associated with various geographic regions also helps ensure smoother market transactions and a better understanding of the local economy. From a safety perspective, security managers can monitor risks through robust incident management processes and reporting that delivers real-time actionable intelligence.

Managing global risks from a centralized command center streamlines notification of potential dangers and helps enable collaboration among multiple reporting systems and services.
