Symantec and Carvoyant on Success with TIBCO

Blog: The Tibco Blog

Symantec Secures a Better Customer Experience

“Symantec has grown both organically and through acquisition, and that leads to disparate systems,” says Mannie Heer, senior director, IT Applications for Symantec, the global leader in security and information management solutions. “We really needed a technology solution that would bring it together, provide customer-facing solutions as well as back office systems that help deliver our products and services.”

One key challenge was providing a more seamless process for customers opening cases and supplying evidence of potential security events. As it was, the process required multiple steps of both engineers and customers, including setting up FTP accounts and directory structures for each case, emailing back and forth, and finally, attaching submitted evidence to the case.

Symantec wanted to provide real-time messaging, real-time events, and bring all its tools together so it could do business at a much faster rate. Using TIBCO BusinessWorks and TIBCO Managed File Transfer, Symantec integrated small back-end systems and databases with Salesforce.com to automate the evidence-collecting process, allowing engineers to focus on diagnosing and helping customers and supplying a seamless customer experience.

Carvoyant Drives Turn-key Car Data with its API and TIBCO Mashery

For businesses that depend on knowing a vehicle’s current location and communicating with it, Carvoyant solves the problem. It enables data flow from all cars built since 1996 to consistently power applications that its clients build. The Carvoyant API eliminates the hassle and complexity of connecting to vehicles, so clients can use this data to provide real value.

“We call ourselves ‘data plumbers for connected cars,’ says CEO and founder Bret Tobey. “Our service works across a complex range of vehicles, devices, and telco data interfaces, so that instead of having to figure out each of those components on their own, developers can have a really simple, straightforward, future-proof way of working with connected car data. We make it easy.

“We live and die by our API. That is our product. Our tools let people deal with the flow of data. Big customers can get a customized flow of information, but the real value of Carvoyant is that a whole range of people can use the data and it doesn’t have to be set up in a custom way. It became very clear very quickly that API management had to work well—and if it wasn’t something we were watching all the time it was going to come back and bite us.”
