Stop Asking "What Can Brown Do For You?" Ask, "What Can You Do For Yourself?"

Overnight delivery services like FedEx and UPS have done a tremendous job automating their processes to the point that many of us take for granted the ability to track a package en route, and learn exactly when it will arrive. While expecting a package recently, and performing this exact exercise, it hit me: Why do we expect the ability to track packages being moved around the world, but sometimes don’t have proper insight into what’s happening within our own four walls? In some organizations, even the most mundane processes – like employee on-boarding – are bogged down with inefficiencies that slow the process and hinder visibility.

Automated processes and the technology behind them are what originally set FedEx and UPS apart from the US Postal Service and gave them a competitive edge. It’s time for organizations of all sizes to seize that competitive edge as well by automating their own processes. With FedEX and UPS having used complex technology on a global scale for decades, smaller organizations should realize that Business Process Management solutions are available to fit their needs and their budget. Even the smallest process improvements made with inexpensive technology can incrementally make a difference over time. Let’s make sure these organizations realize that they have the power to help themselves.
