On the Radar: Joincube Inc.

Joincube Inc. was founded in 2008 to develop an enterprise social networking product for the South American market. Building on its success, in early 2015, the company saw an opportunity to extract a subset of the product’s features to address the emerging team collaboration market, and in early 2016 launched Hibox, which combines group chat, task management and video.

With its headquarters in Barcelona, Spain, Joincube Inc. is a provider of enterprise social networking (ESN) and team collaboration solutions. This report focuses on its recently launched product, Hibox.

What does it do?

Designed to support collaboration among teams, Hibox combines task management, team messaging and video chat technologies in a single SaaS offering. Conversations are organised into ‘streams’ for each project or team, with individuals able to create tasks from directly within the chat stream (or via a separate task management view). Tasks can be assigned to people in the team, with the option of adding deadlines and priority to each task. Although it’s not a sophisticated project management tool, Hibox supports the creation of subtasks and recurring tasks, with both calendar and list views to enable teams to coordinate their activities in the context of their discussions without having to switch to another application.

An interesting feature is the Hibox bot that adds a layer of intelligence and automation to the platform. Using natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning capabilities, the bot can automatically recognise when a chat message includes a potential task, and offers the option of creating a task based on the text in question. If confirmed, this is added to the task list for that stream (see screenshot below). The bot is also used to support the onboarding process for new Hibox users, creating personal tasks for them such as completing their profile or adding colleagues, and the company intends to build on these capabilities over time.
