International Women’s Day 2020- Meet 8 Inspiring MK Women Leaders

Blog: MattsenKumar Blog

Name: Aarati Kumar

Role: Chief Operating Officer

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

The younger Aarati was more carefree. I went with the flow but even then I was consciously aware of how few women reach the top. The mantra then was to work hard and be diligent. The rest will follow. And it actually did!

Looking back I can say — stay the course and even more emphatically— anything is possible.

2. What do you do to support women in the workplace or your daily life?

Balancing home and professional goals is always a struggle. I admire women who get out and give it their all at work and back at home. I can say it gets easier as each gets more comfortable with different elements of our lives. I believe the best we can do to support other women is to be a sounding board. Women often just need to know they are not alone in the balancing act.

3. What’s your personal success mantra?

You can’t win alone. Surround yourself with smart people, people who you can rely on, people who push you to be better.

Name: Tapashya Subba

Role: Vice President, Quality

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

Don’t give up! even if you do not get there first, you will eventually achieve your goals if you are determined!

2. What do you do to support women in the workplace or in your daily life?

Listen to them and understand their thought process without stereotyping. Listening is important!

3. What’s your personal success mantra?

Do not base your action on someone else’s opinion. Since you have to face the consequences of your own actions make sure the options chosen are yours. You own 100% of the decisions you take! For better or worse.

Name: Apeksha Pathak

Role: Group Manager – Leadership Support POD

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

AP: I would suggest the younger Apeksha follow her heart more instead of trying to always do what makes sense. As long as you follow your heart, you will always find happiness.

2. What do you do to support women in the workplace or your daily life?

AP: I compliment them on their efforts and congratulate them on their achievements. Credits should be given where it is due and competitiveness should never get in the way of that. We rise by lifting others and women have to stand up for each other.

3. What’s your personal success mantra?

AP: ‘Never say Never’. I always accept the opportunities that come my way even if that means going out of my comfort zone. Unless we challenge ourselves, there is very little chance of growing as a person or as a professional.

Name: Anjali Kushwaha

Role: Manager, Flipkart

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

AK: Do not copy anyone, be original.- Don’t inhale negativity from others instead amazed & grow them with your positive approach

2. What do you do to support women in the workplace or in your daily life?

AK: Usually, I ask them to support other women’s perspectives & do not pass bad words. When women support each other, they create amazing things & best culture. When we open our hearts, we create a platform to know others’ experiences & make them feel safe to speak up & talk without being judged.

3. What’s your personal success mantra?

AK: Do what is right instead of what people ask you to do. The right path is tough, but for sure will give you peace, justice & success.

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

SM: Stop worrying about what others think of me.

2. What do you do to support women in the workplace or in your daily life?

3. What’s your personal success mantra?

SM: Success is 1% Luck and Talent and 99% of Never Give Up…I might fall down 1000 times but I will Get up each time and never ever quit.

Name: Kavita Kumari

Role: Manager HP

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

KK: Never doubt yourself. I don’t have a desire to be greater than others but to fight my biggest enemy that is ‘self-doubts’. It does not only pull you down but questions your existence too.

2. What do you do to support women in the workplace or your daily life?

KK: I am not in favor of one gender as both genders deserve equality. But I do believe in helping others rise and build a future. Being a manager I don’t take this position as an achievement or honor but I take it as a great responsibility and be useful for others. I always try to encourage people (not only at the workplace) to have courage, confidence, and competence (be someone you are known for, we expect or ‘go-to person’).

3. What’s your personal success mantra?

KK: Don’t take the challenges as a part of your job, it’s a calling for passion. Put your head, heart, and hands into to make it a success. Don’t let your curiosity go away, be a lifelong student. See everything as a learning source but be responsible enough to pass it on.

Name: Rashi Baweja

Role: Manager, Innovation & Strategy

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

Looking back to my younger years, I am sometimes amazed at how life has turned. Nothing is exactly what I had originally planned for. The only thing that stays the same is who I am, my values, my interests, and my loving family. I would rather tell my younger self to be more carefree than ever and accept every opportunity that lands before her.

 2. What do you do to support women in the workplace or in your daily life?

One of the best ways to support women in an organization is to make sure they are being hired in the first place and I love how MK truly believes in this and has a team of some of the smartest women in the industry. I personally always try to step up as a mentor to help guide my subordinates and help them achieve their goals. I completely conclude the fact that even if you’re on a totally different project or at the same level, you can be a work friend who helps others navigate office politics, cheers them on when they’ve landed a big new endeavor, and lets them vent when they’ve had a bad day.

3. What is your personal success mantra?

“One year equals 365 possibilities”, I do not know where I read this but this is one thing that just keeps revolving in my head always, no matter what I am doing or where I am, I just keep remembering this every day. I believe that these lines are absolutely true to the core. If someone has ever thought that they haven’t got time to do something that they really cared about or didn’t get the opportunity to even kick to start it, then they must start remembering these lines because each day that we spend on the face of the earth is filled with so many possibilities, so much emotion and action is packed in a day and all that really needs is a fuel of commitment from your end, rest everything will fall in its place and you will see how things change around you and make you a better you. This women’s day, I wish that every woman who is reading this gets to become a believer and pulls herself towards the possibilities to become an achiever that she was born to become.

Name: Isha Bari

Role: Manager, Nexidia

1. What advice will you give to your younger self?

IB: One advice to my younger self would be what other people say about you is none of your business. Stop trying to change yourself to please others, and start focusing on the things that fill you with joy. Be yourself and be completely unapologetic about being so. Embrace your craziness, take that leap of faith in yourself. You are the way you are for a purpose, so use it to your advantage.

2. What do you do to support women in the workplace or in your daily life?

IB: A genuine compliment can light up anyone’s day. All the more so for Women, there is so much a woman goes through each day right from getting up in the morning till going to bed. I try to compliment my colleagues, friends, family whenever I get a chance. Nothing can light up a woman’s face more than the belief that she is beautiful.

3. What’s your personal success mantra?

IB: My personal mantra to success is not to wait for someone to get things done for me. If I want a change I believe in bringing it about myself.
