F1 Race Recap: A Wild, Winning Weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix

Blog: The Tibco Blog

From sitting on panels to standing on podiums, it was a big weekend for TIBCO and our partner Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport!

A contingent of TIBCO team members touched down in Barcelona this weekend for the Spanish Grand Prix. On Saturday, TIBCO Chief Analytics Officer Michael O’Connell spoke on a panel discussion about the latest data-driven innovations in Formula One.

He also made a fairly bold prediction about the weekend’s race – a 1-2 finish for Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Michael and TIBCO Chief Marketing Officer Thomas Been headed down to pit lane for a tour of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport garage before qualifying, getting a first-hand look at the effort, precision, and care that goes into preparing the W09 for race weekend.

Hamilton and Bottas locked out the front row during qualifying, giving them their first 1-2 start of the season. The Champ stepped out to greet the throngs of media after securing pole position.

Then on Sunday, our team took another quick visit to the paddock to ensure everything was in order before the W09 rolled onto the grid.

And just as soon as the race began, the drama started to unfold.

Hamilton and Bottas escaped the mayhem cleanly, while other drivers who made it through were hot on their heels.

Both drivers kept up their blistering pace, avoiding incident and leading the pack with smart decision-making and skillful driving.

Towards the last few laps, Bottas’s tires began to show their wear as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen worked to close the gap…

But it was no match for the speed and determination of the Silver Arrows, who raced across the line in their first 1-2 finish of the season, just as predicted!

And now – time to celebrate!
