Celebrating 1 year of remote work

Blog: AuraQuantic Blog

That’s right, it has been over a year since covid-19 changed the labor landscape, forcing many companies to adopt remote work models. This was not a new work model, but the situation caused an acceleration of adoption and, what was expected to take years, happened overnight.

The health crisis forced companies to reorganize work and implement software that enabled workers to perform their tasks from anywhere without affecting productivity or collaboration with the rest of the team. At AURA, the creator of AuraQuantic, we have completed a year of remote work, so we are going explain our “new normal”.

Reflexion after a year of remote work at AURA

Uncertainty was the predominant sentiment in most companies when opting for remote work. Before the pandemic, AURA did not have a remote work culture; all staff came to the office every day. Given the extreme situation and in order to protect the health of employees, we switched the daily commute for the home office without hesitation. But how would this affect our productivity?

“Productivity hasn’t decreased, which is great, and employees also benefit from greater flexibility”

OLIVIA TRILLES, GLOBAL HEAD OF TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH AT AURA

In AURA, the adaptation to remote working was fast and had no negative consequences. Olivia Trilles, Global Head of Technology Research at AURA, states: “Productivity has not decreased, which is fantastic, and employees also benefit from greater flexibility”.

The acceptance from employees was, in part, because AuraQuantic is a digital tool, so it can be used from any device and anywhere. Before the pandemic, offices were already using AuraQuantic and Microsoft Teams, so workers were already used to using these tools.

“With remote work, time is optimized, the speed of information is much higher and there are fewer interruptions”

ADRIÀ ESPÍ, GRAPHIC DESIGNER AT AURA

Office VS remote work with AuraQuantic

Despite the change, a remote work day does not differ much from a day at the office, except for the obvious factors: we do not have to travel to the offices or share physical space with our colleagues. Before, the first thing we did when we got to the office – and the last thing – was to register our fingerprint to record the working day. Well, we have replaced fingerprint registration with a registration in AuraQuantic. In addition, a simple automated task in our task inbox sends us daily reminders so that we do not forget to record our working hours.

Departmental meetings are now held on Teams, where we create recurring events, connect with the team and discuss the points of the week. This tool makes interaction simple and useful, with the option to arrange meetings spontaneously or schedule them in advance. We consider the latter as something very positive for the worker since, the calendar displays a clear view of the day’s events and availability.

To ensure coordination between teams, we all take breaks at the same time and we can know at all times if a colleague is on a call, busy or out of the office. In addition, with AuraQuantic, connectivity and access to documents from any place and device is guaranteed, a great benefit that contributes to employee productivity. On the surface, everything has changed, but deep down, things remain the same. Remote working has turned out to be another means to the same end.

The positive side

Adrià Espí, graphic designer at AURA, says that, on a personal level, remote work is much better, since it is more comfortable, it helps him optimize his time, the speed of information is much higher and there are fewer interruptions than in an office. Alba Fernández, Head of Marketing at AURA, states: “After a year, this is normal for me. Seeing colleagues through video calls is not a substitute for real interaction, but I think we have been able to make the most of the tools we have to do our job the same or even better than before”.

Jordi Gabriel, an employee of the Marketing department, explains: “On a personal level, teleworking has made things much easier for me, for which I am very grateful”. In addition, Jordi says that, given his profession as an editor, he was already used to working from home, “so I have not climbed the walls or anything like that,” he adds. For Luis Ponsoda from the Verification Department, the feeling is similar, although the situation is different: “In my case I have not noticed big changes either, since I am still in the office. My role is more of a technical and logistical nature and, what I previously solved live, now I do telematically ”. In addition, he says that, thanks to videoconferencing, teamwork has not suffered

The other side of teleworking

Of course, there is something very evident that we are missing with telework: the lack of physical interaction with the rest of the colleagues. Colleagues who, with the passage of time, have been incorporated into the family in practically all the departments. This has led us to a somewhat peculiar situation, and that is, many of us know each other personally and others, we have simply never seen them in any other way than through a screen. Curious, right?

Jordi was the first hired in the middle of the pandemic. Jordi has been working remotely since July 2020 and, although he claims not to have noticed major differences because he has not yet gone to work at the office, he was struck by the appearance that he presented on the two occasions that he went to get computer equipment: “ It was curious to me and much bigger than I expected, but above all it made me remember why I work from home: the unexpected arrival of a pandemic that changed the traditional business method”.

“Not all companies can boast of managing a health crisis as AURA has done”

JORDI GABRIEL, VIDEO EDITOR AT AURA

Working remotely means facing new difficulties. Let’s remember that there are no longer corridors in which to cross with colleagues or kitchen to go to have a coffee and, incidentally, talk about what we have done over the weekend. Adrià arrived at the company in February 2021 and, after almost three months, he says that this is the worst part of being “the new one”, since it is much more difficult to meet colleagues: “We hardly ever talk about our things or Conversations cross each other while working, each one is focused on his own and when we speak it is for work”.

But to this day, not all the staff continues to telework, some employees have preferred to resume the face-to-face mode and perform their functions from the office, as is the case with Luis. For him, going to the office in the middle of the pandemic was very strange “and a little sad to see it so empty”, although he affirms that little by little he has gotten used to it.

“I think we have been able to make the most of the tools we have to do our job the same or almost better than before”

ALBA FERNÁNDEZ, HEAD OF MARKETING

What if we help other companies to implement teleworking in their day to day?

In order to help other companies adapt to new circumstances, AuraQuantic Teleworking was born, the most powerful tool with which to achieve objectives within the company regardless of where the employees are.

This low-cost platform has important functionalities that have ensured the performance of AURA’s workforce and favored internal and external communication, a key factor in teleworking performance. Among them we find AuraQuantic Cloud, access to twenty licenses in subscription mode, ready-to-use process templates or monitoring reports of social activities and productivity.

The solution includes important tools that have maintained and even increased labor productivity at AURA, offering complete control of tasks through automation and traceability of these, key factors to successfully implement teleworking. In addition, with AuraQuantic Teleworking, it has been possible to create automation without code in business operations, which has minimized the possibilities of errors and helped employees to focus their attention on tasks that have the greatest impact.

One year goes a long way; and with a pandemic involved, much more. Teleworking has come to stay and not only that, but everything indicates that it will be the predominant work modality in the not too distant future. Therefore, we can only take advantage of this situation to give the best of ourselves, continue training and not be left behind by making use of digital systems that allow remote work to be more effective. At AURA we have been implementing teleworking for a year now, what about your company?
