AuraPortal Workshop: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
Blog: AuraQuantic Blog
Olivia Trilles, AuraPortal CEO, recently organized a very interesting workshop for us to take a deep dive into Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, to see how there is so much more to technology than meets the eye, opening our horizons to the search for improvement through mathematical calculation and learning.
The session was led by Isabel Gómez Miragaya, Leader in Business Development and Transformation and CEO of SaaS Level Up and by Pablo Doval, expert in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), General Manager of Plain Concepts.
For a novice, AI and ML can seem mysterious and far from reality, but these are concepts that have been gaining momentum in recent years.
Artificial Intelligence (AI): Machines mimic the cognitive functions of humans.
Artificial Intelligence could be defined as the combination of algorithms proposed with the purpose of creating machines that have the same capabilities as a human being. Computer science experts Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig differentiate several types of Artificial Intelligence:
- Systems that think like humans: automate activities such as decision making, problem solving and learning, e.g. artificial neural networks.
- Systems that act like humans: these are computers that perform tasks in a way similar to how people would. This is the case of robots.
- Systems that think rationally: they try to emulate the rational logical thinking of humans, i.e., they investigate how to make machines perceive, reason and act accordingly. Expert systems are included in this group.
- Systems that act rationally: they try to rationally imitate human behavior, like intelligent agents.
Their application is wide and covers various fields, such as facial recognition on mobile phones, virtual assistants such as Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa or Microsoft’s Cortana and are integrated in our devices through bots (abbreviation of robots) or mobile applications.
Machine Learning (ML)
ML studies the recognition of patterns and learning by computers. It is, therefore, a product of AI, computer science and neuroscience that has become an independent discipline given its relevance and application in daily activities supported by computers.
The purpose of ML is that people and machines work hand in hand, as these machines are capable of learning as a human would. This is precisely what algorithms do; they allow machines to perform general and specific tasks. It is these algorithms that provide relevant findings or conclusions obtained from a set of data without a human having to write the instructions or codes.
Its applications are very diverse: from translation services to climate predictions, including predicting what users want based on their recent activities. The benefits offered are innumerable and could become a facilitator for daily tasks.
AuraPortal
The Artificial Intelligence technologies in AuraPortal optimize business process flows, detect the source of potential anomalies, suggest changes and even predict the result and impact. Thus, AuraPortal is playing an increasingly important role for its customers and making a greater impact on operations and business growth.
Can you think of a business scenario that AuraPortal could improve using Artificial Intelligence?
