ARIS Flows: Advancing Workflow Automation and Governance within the ARIS Platformmscheid

Organizations increasingly need to move from documenting and analyzing processes to actively managing and automating them. With ARIS Flows, this transition becomes seamless. The new capability — available from October 27, 2025, for ARIS Enterprise — brings workflow automation and process orchestration directly into the ARIS platform.

A Unified Approach to Process Automation

ARIS Flows bridges the gap between process governance, execution, and continuous improvement. It provides a low-code, no-code environment for creating and running workflows that act on ARIS content, data, as well as external insights.

Whether it’s automating approval cycles, routing change requests, or synchronizing updates from business or systems changes, Flows enables organizations to design, monitor, and refine their ARIS workflows in one integrated space.

Integrated Workflow Automation

ARIS Flows is designed to easily automate typical governance scenarios that previously required manual coordination or separate tools.

E.g. for Content Lifecycle and Change Management in ARIS

Sustaining accurate and compliant process documentation is essential to effective governance. ARIS Flows automates key elements of model lifecycle and change management through configurable workflows that support:

  • Structured approvals before publication of process models or documents.
  • Change request management with automated routing to responsible roles.
  • Lifecycle state transitions such as Draft, Review, Approved, Published, or Retired.
  • Comprehensive audit trails providing full transparency over modifications and approvals.

By standardizing these activities, organizations can ensure consistent and auditable management of process content while reducing manual effort and risk of inconsistencies.

Connectivity with External Systems

Process improvement often depends on collaboration with external applications, such as IT service or development management platforms. ARIS Flows facilitates such collaboration through API-based integrations with systems including Jira or ServiceNow.
These integrations enable users to:

  • Create, update, and synchronize issues or tasks between ARIS and external tools.
  • Associate external work items directly with ARIS processes and governance workflows.
  • Initiate workflow actions from within ARIS models or repository content.

This connectivity supports alignment between process governance and operational execution and ensures that information remains consistent across systems.

From Analysis to Action

In conjunction with ARIS Process Mining, ARIS Flows enables a closed-loop approach to process optimization. Insights derived from mining, such as performance deviations, compliance violations, or process bottlenecks, can automatically trigger ARIS Flows for follow-up actions, notifications, or escalations.
This integration helps transform analytical findings into concrete operational responses within the same platform.

A Foundation for Governance and Scalability

ARIS Flows introduces a modern workflow engine designed for enterprise governance, transparency, and scalability. It supports regulated and complex industries while remaining adaptable to broader use cases across organizations seeking bridge the gap between process management strategies and execution.

ARIS Flows will be available from today with the ARIS Version 10.0.2025.10

In the next weeks Eva and I are going to publish a series of blog posts to explain how you can use ARIS Flows for different use cases. We will describe how to build Flows and explain how the different capabilities (e.g. custom actions) that come with that release can be facilitated stating with a flow to share a model.
