A call for AI substance not for more hype
Blog: For Practitioners by Practitioners!
Today Stéphane Dalbera posted such a call: “… in the case of LLMs, too often the discourse remains high-level and aspirational. Demos abound, wow effect, but operational insights remain scarce. For a field that claims to redefine productivity, creativity, and even human reasoning itself, the lack of grounded, transparent, and reproducible narratives is troubling.” Interesting quotes provided in comments by Vincent Lextrait: Link
“A great misunderstanding accounts for public confusion about thinking machines, a misunderstanding perpetrated by the unrealistic claims researchers in AI have been making, claims that thinking machines are already here, or at any rate, just around the corner.” – Hubert Dreyfus, 1985
“AI is a collective name for problems which we do not yet know how to solve properly by computer” – Bertram Raphael, 1971
“AI is whatever hasn’t been done yet” – Larry Tesler, 1979.
