Google adds accelerated ML to the embedded devices

Coming this fall. Google will offer small, portable versions of its custom machine learning chips, embedded in boards or USB devices. “The Edge TPU is a small ASIC designed by Google that provides high performance ML inferencing for low-power devices. For example, it can concurrently execute multiple state-of-the-art vision models on high-res video at 30+ fps, in a power efficient manner.” Here is what Benedict Evans from Andreessen Horowitz wrote about it: “Edge ML: embeddable in points of sale, kiosks or industrial machinery of all kinds, recognizing things that previously needed a mammal brain. Coming soon to Pixel phones, I suspect (note that the newest iPhones have dedicated ML silicon).”
