It’s Getting Hot in Here: Temperature Monitoring & Maintenance with Flogo
Blog: The Tibco Blog
Meet Flynn. Flynn works with complicated machinery and is responsible for regulating its temperature and maintenance requests. He wants to automate his machinery so that it can automatically regulate its temperature, raise alerts when maintenance needs to be done, and find and assign staff to the case. He believes that he can create a more efficient process that saves time and money with easy, cost-effective connectivity to facilitate greater employee productivity.
That’s why Flynn turned to TIBCO. TIBCO provides Flynn the software to build IoT applications that run on edge devices, so he is able to set up his machinery to send temperature readings every two seconds and compare the readings to a configured threshold. If the temperature is consistently high a certain number of times, an alert is raised, triggering a maintenance case.
Flynn is able to set up the maintenance case by building a fully-function, smart app that collects the following data: device ID, device latitude and longitude, and alert description. He is able to access the alert details raised by the case, an alert data and time, and a site address through reverse geocoding the device localization data. TIBCO’s ability to connect applications also makes it possible for Flynn to find and assign the closest staff in a radius of 50 kilometers by inputting a list of maintenance staff with their last known position, contact data, and availability status. Once a staff member is identified, it marks them as busy and sends them details about the incident.
Once the staff member arrives onsite, they assess the problem and determine if it’s a quick resolution or if equipment needs to be ordered. If the problem can be fixed directly, the allocated staff member can resolve it and clear the alert. If items need to be ordered, the staff member can go ahead and order the items through another connected ordering application, and update the order status when it’s delivered.
The integration of Project Flogo, TIBCO Cloud Live Apps, TIBCO Cloud Integration, and GeoAnalytics helps to ensure that the temperature of machinery is monitored effectively and that a process is in place to make any necessary repairs. This helps to catch any anomalies before it’s too late to keep the machinery running smoothly and efficiently.
